Event Date:
Saturday, April 14, 2018 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

The D.C. Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 ended slavery in Washington, D.C., freed 3,100 enslaved individuals, reimbursed those who had legally held slaves and offered the newly freed men and women money to emigrate. It is this legislation, and the courage and struggle of those who fought to make it a reality, that Emancipation Day commemorates.

Saturday, April 14th, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Line-up starts at 10th St & Pennsylvania Ave. NW and the parade proceeds down Pennsylvania Ave., ending at 14th St & Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
