The Board of Directors of DC Vote announced that, after ten years of service to the cause of DC democracy, Executive Director Ilir Zherka will leave the organization in late October to become executive director
of the National Conference for Citizenship, a non-partisan, nonprofit group working to advance greater participation in our nation's civic life.
DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton called Zherka, "one of our most skilled advocates for DC democracy. During Ilir's ten years of leadership, DC Vote has become a strong partner that I can count on in the fight
for voting rights. I am confident that DC Vote will continue to be a critical source of energy and creativity for our movement."
"Ilir has done an outstanding job of building DC Vote into the strong advocacy organization it is today," said DC Vote Board of Directors Chairman and Arent Fox Partner Jon Bouker. "He has helped lead the fight to defend DC from federal attacks and to bring an end to taxation without representation in DC. The board has begun a nationwide search for a new executive director who will bring a passion for democracy in DC, along with a strong expertise in advocacy that will build on Ilir's outstanding work."
The Board of Directors anticipates it will hire an interim executive director next month.
"DC Vote is a key organization in the struggle for full voting rights for DC residents," said Anna Lefer Kuhn, Executive Director of the Arca Foundation. "We have confidence in DC Vote's staff and Board of Directors to lead the movement and build on Ilir Zherka's impressive legacy."
