“The House leadership should be ashamed for trying to impose a political agenda upon a group of Americans that have no vote in the Congress. They are clearly motivated by the desire to please special interest groups, so much so that they are willing to set aside their small government ideals. The House vote in favor of this bill violates fundamental principles of democracy.”

"The defeat of this bill in the House today is a victory for DC democracy. However, it is disgraceful that a majority of the House appears ready to curtail the self-determination rights of Americans living in the District of Columbia.
