June 5, 2012

The following letter was set today to all Members of the House and Senate from the DC Voting Rights Coalition. On Wednesday, June 6, the House Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will mark up the DC 2013 spending bill.

A subcommittee draft of the bill includes a provision that bans the District from spending its own locally-raised tax dollars on reproductive services for poor women. DC Vote and members of the coalition will continue to fight to have this unjust violation of the District's Home Rule authority removed from the FY2013 DC spending bill.

The full House Appropriations Committee is expected to mark up the subcommittee bill very soon. At that time, supporters of self-determination for DC are expected to offer amendments to strike the abortion "rider."
