Washington, DC – A wide range of faith-based groups will lend their support to the DC democracy movement this Saturday, June 25 at the White House Rally For DC Democracy. Various congregations from around the District are organizing an interfaith choir to perform, and Christian rapper Joe L. Da Vessel will perform his song “Demand The Vote.”
The rally will also include a speech by DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. Various family-friendly activities will include painting "voting arm" sculptures, making rally signs and space to picnic.
“The faith community sees DC voting rights and Home Rule as a moral issue, not just a political one, and that perspective is very important to the movement,” said DC Vote Executive Director Ilir Zherka. “When you remove partisan politics from the equation, the civil rights of American citizens in DC are what’s at stake.”
