This statement by DC Vote Executive Director Ilir Zherka may be quoted in whole or in part:

DC Vote agrees with Delegate Norton that a vote in the Committee of the Whole is a significant step toward the full democracy DC residents deserve. We call on all Washingtonians, especially locally elected leaders, to fight to retain her vote. Taxation without representation in DC is an affront to American democracy. Taking away the small piece of representation DC has fought for and won rises to the level of personal insult. We hope that new conservative members of Congress will take their colonial-era manta of ‘don’t tread on me’ seriously and not tread on DC. We encourage the 112th Congress to help move democratic reform for DC forward, not backward.
