Washington, DC - "Michael Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman were in Mississippi registering Black voters and challenging Mississippi's history of disenfranchisement based on race. They and many others sacrificed their time, and, in too many cases, their lives fighting racial discrimination and disenfranchisement.

"We are the heirs to that struggle. They gave their lives so that everyone in this country would have the right to vote. The best way to honor their sacrifice is to stop denying voting rights to the 600,000 residents of Washington, D.C."
