Norton Ready to Fight Gun Repeal on House Floor Next Wednesday
September 24, 2004
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that the House has scheduled a vote to repeal D.C.'s gun safety laws next Wednesday, September 29, 2004.
Norton said, "I am no more giving up in the House than I gave up in the Senate this week. We have got to fight every intrusion into our self-government and most especially when the violation of our rights also risks the lives of our children, our residents, our 200,000 federal workers and our 20 million visitors annually. The contemptuous disregard for the lives of the 14 children already lost to gunfire in D.C. this year is matched only by the hollow cries to defeat terrorism while attempting to make handguns and assault weapons freely available during an orange alert."
