Hastert Agrees To Meet With D.C. Vets - Hastert's Office Contacts Vet

Source:      NBC4.com
Date:      Tuesday, January 4, 2005

An aide for House Speaker Dennis Hastert has apparently told D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton's office that he will meet with three veterans who served in Iraq.

The veterans were on Capitol Hill Monday seeking voting rights for the District of Columbia.

The soldiers want Norton be able to vote on the house floor rather than only in committee. Norton's vote was taken away in 1995 when Republicans took control of congress. Since then, hundreds of city residents have been called up for duty. Four of them have died in Iraq.

Monday night, a Norton spokesperson said Hastert's office called Norton's office, looking for phone numbers for the veterans.

They connected with one of them, and the staffer for Hastert said they'd try to work something out.
