Three Occupy D.C. protesters on Thursday began a hunger strike to demand congressional representation and voting rights for the District.
The strikers – who include Occupy D.C. media organizer Sam Jewler and Adrian Parsons, one of four protesters arrested on the roof of a condemned structure in McPherson Square Sunday – say they will refuse food and drink only water "until D.C. realizes democracy." They're also demanding that Congress stop reviewing new District laws and budget spending measures.
Protesters say they're following in the footsteps of notable activists and hunger strikers like Mohandas Gandhi and Alice Paul. They're posting a livestream of the strike on their website.
