Three Occupy DC protesters are going on a hunger strike in an attempt to win the District of Columbia representation in Congress. In an interview with WMAL.com, one of the hunger strikers, Adrian Parsons, said they plan on not eating until DC gets the vote.
"It's not just that your vote is less than a lobbyist's. It's actually non-existent in Congress," said Parsons, a local musician and artist, who said he has never gone on a hunger strike before.
The group said it wants full budget autonomy, legislative autonomy, representation and voting rights in Congress for the District, the home of "600,000 taxed, yet voiceless, citizens."
"The reason we are putting our bodies at risk is because DC is at risk in a huge way," said Parsons, who said he and his fellow protesters plan on visiting the offices of key congressmen to alert them of their strike.
