The Senate’s Appropriations Committee takes up the District budget this week, and that means only one thing: Rider threats! The Post’s Ben Pershing reports that local activists are most concerned that a ban on the local funding of abortion will appear, guaranteeing it will remain law after it was negotiated back into effect earlier this year as part of the shutdown-aversion deal. The advocates at D.C. Vote want supporters to contact Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.), two Appropriations moderates, and tell them to keep their hands off the city’s spending.
In other news:
MLK memorial dedication is back on, and so is the District’s “Full Democracy” rally. But celebrity support is thus far lacking. (WaTimes)
