A pair of former Democratic officials has an idea for where District of Columbia residents can take their trash in case a government shutdown occurs:
The home of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).
That’s right, motivated by the possibility of a shutdown on Saturday, the two men — Jonah Goodman and Nolan Treadway, both of whom previously worked for the Democratic National Committee — created a Facebook page called “Take Your Trash To Boehner’s.”
Should lawmakers fail to pass a budget by Friday’s midnight deadline, the federal government would effectively shutdown. Only essential federal employees would be asked to continue working, while as many as 800,000 others could be furloughed. DC officials say that a shutdown could delay services such as trash pickup for days.
Goodman and Treadway did not publish an address for Boehner’s place of residency, but wrote “If the shutdown does occur, and we move forward with this event, we’ll provide details on location(s) and we’ll make sure it’s done in a sanitary and respectful way.”
A section of the page devoted to “More Info,” includes the following: “Speaker John Boehner is ready to shut down the government, including DC city services like trash collection. Well, if he won’t allow us to use OUR TAX DOLLARS to pick it up, maybe we should just BRING IT TO HIM.”
At the time this story was published, 910 members on Facebook had RSVP’d to the event, which is being held from midnight on Friday until Congress reaches a deal to fund the government.?
