Local activists staged a protest Thursday outside Speaker John Boehner's house, D.C. Wire reported today.
While members of the group DC Vote have gone to Boehner's office before to complain about GOP bills, they took the protests to his residence this time because of concerns that he was meddling in District affairs.
The protest included a sign that read "Don't Tread on DC" and a tea bag emblazoned with the slogan, "End Taxation Without Representation."
DC Vote is upset the House is considering a spending bill that would cut roughly $80 million in federal payments to the District and prohibit the city from using its own money for abortions or needle-exchange programs.
"Speaker Boehner is coming to our home telling us how to spend our money," DC Vote head Ilir Zherka told D.C. Wire. "We decided to come to his house to tell him to leave D.C. alone."
