D.C. Council Wants to Rename Part of Pennsylvania Avenue

The D.C. Council is considering renaming a portion of Pennsylvania Avenue, just one block from the White House, to reflect the city's ongoing quest for statehood.
At-large Councilman Michael Brown said in a statement that he will host a roundtable Thursday evening at the John A. Wilson Building to discuss possible new names for the ceremonial renaming of Pennsylvania Avenue between the 1300 and 1400 block, Northwest.
Brown said he also wants to put "statehood/voting rights language" on the District's gateway signs.
“Our city hosts streets named after all the states in the country, yet the residents of those very streets are denied the full democratic rights that Statehood offers. Let this potential renaming be a reminder to all those who visit the District of the rights still lacking in the nation’s capital,” Brown said.
