DC Voting Rights Day of Action

Source:      Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism Blog
Date:      Tuesday, January 4, 2011
Author:      Marc Friend

Today, I joined the DC Voting Rights Coalition on Capitol Hill to defend D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton's right to vote in Congress.

The House will vote tomorrow on the new rules for the 112th Congress. One rule will strip 600,000 residents of D.C. of the sliver of democracy they had, by taking away Delegate Norton's right to vote. After a welcome from newly elected mayor Vince Grey and Representative Holmes Norton, we went to every house office to lobby them to stop this injustice. In my group, we met with over forty congressional offices and met with Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson from Texas.

Lastly, additional members of the coalition met with the new House Speaker John Boehner's chief of staff and explained how important it is to ensure democracy in the District of Columbia. You can help by calling Rep. Boehner today at 202.225.6205 and ask him to retain the DC Delegate vote.
