A Drink to Disenfranchisement

Source:      DCist.com
Date:      Thursday, December 16, 2010
Author:      Martin Austermuhle

Instead of offering up a roundup of all things D.C. voting rights as we approach the end of the year (in short: we didn't get any), I'd like to credit the folks at D.C. Vote with a festive and holiday-themed way to get their point across. (These were a hit at their holiday party.)

The reds were complex and featured tones of disappointment and despondence; the white was crisp, citrusy and rich in cynicism. In other words, the flavors perfectly described the frustration of 200 years of disenfranchisement. Even after four or five glasses, the inevitable drunkenness did little to lessen the stabs of second-class citizenship. They did pair nicely with sharp cheddar cheese, but only when Republicans said it was okay, though.
