The "One Nation Working Together" rally is focused on the issues of immigration, education, jobs and justice. At a press conference with the D.C. City Council, NAACP head Benjamin Jealous says they'll also be rallying for D.C.'s Congressional voting rights.
"When we talk about jobs, when we talk about justice, when we talk about the right for all children to go to good schools," says Jealous, "within justice is the right for all people in this country to have the right to vote."
The rally is the latest in a series of demonstrations on the Mall. Councilman David Catania joked that the District should use all these demonstrations to boost the economy.
"If we could make people really angry enough in the country, they would come here and march and spend their money in our restaurants and hotels; it'd be a great way to put our residents to work," says Catania.
Catania then added, "If you are marching on Washington, please stay in District hotels and restaurants."
The rally is being organized by a number of groups including civil rights groups and labor organizers. It begins Saturday at noon on the National Mall.
