DC Voting Rights Becomes Top Ten Issue Among Young Voters
This April, DC voting rights became a top ten issue on Campus Progress Action's "I'm Voting For" Web site. The Web site is designed to allow young people to upload video testimonials on the issues that matter to them in the upcoming elections. The project goal is to help media and elected officials understand and focus on issues that are important to the younger generation. For the month of May, the first featured video on the home page was George Washington University student, Josh Bumpus, asking for a congressional vote for DC. To see the entire collection of DC voting rights videos from local students and DC Vote members, click here.

Oregon and Montana Get Acquainted with Students for DC Vote
This year, DC Vote went on the road, and we made sure students did not get left out. While at University of Montana, DC Vote staffers Jaline Quinto and Kevin Kiger met with the University of Montana Student Body President, the Law School ACLU President, and Campus Democrats members. On our trip to Oregon we held FIVE different DC voting rights events for students at Portland State University, Lewis and Clark University, Lewis and Clark Law School, and the University of Oregon. We met with more than 60 students about the issue who have now e-mailed, written and called Senator Smith to ask him to drop his filibuster.

Student Letters-to-the-Editor Campaign Reaches Congress
This semester Students for DC Vote co-founder, Nell Schaffer, has been visiting students in high schools across the District of Columbia. She has talked to more than 500 students about the current state of DC voting rights and the importance of attaining our goal of full congressional voting representation. Over the course of the semester, students have created dozens of posters, buttons, songs and slogans for the cause. Many wrote their own 'letters-to-the-editor' which will be compiled into a book and published this summer. A number of student letters have already been sent to newspapers and to Congress, and many others will follow soon.

Fairs, Festivals and Activities Galore
We've stepped up our student outreach, and what better place to do it than at fairs! In March we tabled at George Washington University's First Annual University Wide Block Party. There, students collected information about becoming Students for DC Vote Campus Representatives, and signed letters urging their Senators to end the filibuster. In April, 18 Georgetown Day School students volunteered for DC Vote, making phone calls to voters across the country and assembling Tax Day postcards. Later that month we participated in UDC Votes, a combination of a voter registration drive and a DC voting rights education initiative. We've also enjoyed having two incredible student fellows, Allen Rogers, a Chavez Public Policy Charter School Fellow and Zach Ratner, a senior at Sidwell Friends School.

The Official Students for DC Vote Web Site Gets a New Makeover
Thanks to our awesome National Coordinator, Molly McArdle, the Students for DC Vote Web site got a new makeover this past winter. The Web site's home page now features a simple layout with links to four different pages where you can find all the information you need to Get Involved, Get Resources, Get Online, and Get In Sync with Students for DC Vote. We also added a new 'Featured Student Activist' section at the bottom of the home page where you can view the student activist of the moment and click a link to view all other previously featured students.
