E-bulletin - Issue I - January 19, 2005

Dear DC Vote Supporters:

2005 is already off to a roaring start for DC Vote and the DC voting rights movement!

U.S. Representative Tom Davis (R-VA), Chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform, has been talking about bringing representation to the District of Columbia. He has also voiced his support for having the federal government continue its tradition of paying for the inauguration expenses instead of forcing DC to use vital homeland security funds to pay for it.

Comedy Central's the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to Feature DC Voting Rights

As the Presidential Inauguration 2005 draws near and debate over who should pay for the inauguration expense heats up, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart will feature a report on the hotly-contested issue TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2005. DC Councilmember Jack Evans (Ward 2); civil rights activist Lawrence Guyot; and President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington DC, Inc., Jatrice Martel Gaiter were interviewed for the segment.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart airs nationally on Comedy Central at 11:00 pm EST. The show will rerun at 1:00 am, 10:00 am, and 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 20. Our hopes are that this piece will help raise national public awareness of DC's plight, but for those of you familiar with the Daily Show, we know to be cautious about how they will cover the story. It's sure to generate attention in any case!
