Dear President Obama,
As a senator, you co-sponsored a bill to give DC residents a voting member in the House. We need your support now more than ever!
You are in a critical position to help us pass this important bill. As you know, the legislation is currently stalled in the House thanks to threats of an amendment to repeal all of DC's gun control laws. Please urge Congress to pass the DC Voting Rights Act without any harmful amendments.
DC residents pay the second highest
per capita federal income taxes, serve on
juries and fight and die in wars, yet are denied
voting representation in Congress.
Your leadership on this issue is badly needed. More than half a million Washingtonians are looking to you to champion the cause of voting rights for your new home town. Please lend your voice to this critical debate.
Respectfully,
P.S. While you're at it, please change the license tags on your limo. "Taxation Without Representation" plates on your high-profile vehicle would go a long way towards educating the nation and world about DC's plight!
