SlutWalk D.C. is a protest modeled after a march that originated in Toronto last April in response to an incident where a police constable, at a campus safety meeting, advised students that they could avoid sexual assault if they "stopped dressing like 'sluts'." Last year on August 13th, SlutWalk D.C. marched with over 3000 participants from Lafayette Park to the Washington Monument and heard from speakers including Delegate Ariana Kelly from Maryland District 16, New York Times Best Selling Author Janine Latus, and accomplished feminist activist Dr. Salamishah Tillet.
SlutWalk D.C. 2012 will be held on August 11th, beginning in Lafayette Park, marching down 15th St, and rallying at the Sylvan Theatre stage at the Washington Monument.
DC Vote will also be tabling during the rally at the Sylvan Theater stage to educate participants about DC's lack of democracy and to raise awareness of the fight for representation. If you would like to volunteer, you can e-mail Jen Matson at JMatson@dcvote.org
