The first hearing attacking DC will take place today, on a bill that would reimpose the ban on Washington, DC's use of its own local funds for family planning for low-income women.
Their approach this time is to define DC as part of the "federal government" under law.
DC must stand up against this infringement on our local laws and autonomy.
DC Vote is planning a protest action for tomorrow's hearing. Contact Jennifer Matson at
jmatson@dcvote.org or 202.462.6000 x18 if you would like to volunteer to be involved in an aggressive effort to demand democracy.
Please note: to partake in this direct action you will need to be on the Hill around 12:00 Noon to ensure that you will get into the hearing room.
We also need to pack the hearing room with DC Vote supporters!
Be sure to wear your "Taxation Without Representation" t-shirts to show the committee members that you support local autonomy for the District of Columbia.
Seating is limited, and no overflow room is designated, so please arrive early.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, together we can tell Congress, "Don't Tread on DC"!
