Students for DC Vote's Project S.T.A.N.D. (Students Together Advocating for National Democracy) is an arts and humanities event showcasing the unique perspectives of DC youth on the topic of DC voting rights through various art forms including music, spoken word and visual art. The event will take place on April 14, 2009 at the Public Welfare Foundation in the True Reformer Building located in the historic U Street district. An artists reception will begin at 5:30 PM; Program will begin at 6:30 PM and will conclude at 8:30 PM.
An artists reception, hosted by Miss DC 2008, will provide an opportunity for DC youth to display and discuss their visual artwork. Notables will include local visual artists such as Jahi Foster-Bey, who will be featured in the May 2009 issue of Spin Magazine. The program will include performances by "Free DC" songwriter and performer, Rasi Caprice, Def Jam poet, Sciryl, and "Demand the Vote" songwriter and performer, Joe L. Da Vessel. Come out and enjoy free food and raffle prizes! Admission is free.
