Master of Ceremonies for the Awards Reception Michael Kahn

Each year, DC Vote recognizes Champions of Democracy for their dedication to fulfilling the promise of democracy for residents of Washington, DC. These men and women represent the very best of American excellence.

Champions of Democracy exercise their liberties to speak out about the injustice of living under a system where the governed do not have a vote in the election of those who govern. They understand that being disenfranchised affects all aspects of civic and community life.

DC Vote's 2005 Champions of Democracy are:

  • Joe Sternlieb
Co-Founder of DC Vote & Deputy Director of the Downtown DC Business Improvement District

  • Joslyn Williams
    President, Metropolitan Washington Council,
    AFL-CIO

The Master of Ceremonies for DC Vote's 2005 Champions of Democracy Awards Reception was Michael Kahn, who serves as the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre in the Nation's Capital and the Richard Rodgers Director of the Drama Division of the Juilliard School.

DC Vote's 2005 Champions of Democracy Awards Reception

More than 300 supporters joined DC Vote at the Madison Hotel to honor this year's Champions of Democracy. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra and a video montage of photos from DC Vote events and supporters from the past year was shown throughout the evening.

Attendees also bid on over 75 items that were part of DC Vote's Third Annual 'Let Washington Be Heard' Silent Auction. The Silent Auction was a tremendous success and DC Vote is deeply grateful to the donors of items and services.
