DC Voting Rights Act - Oregon Toolkit
Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) is blocking a bill that would grant DC residents their first ever vote in the House of Representatives. Nearly 600,000 seniors, veterans, students, teachers, union workers, firefighters and homemakers live in our nation's capital and pay taxes. Yet, they have no vote in the Congress that governs them. Sen. Smith is filibustering a bill that would give these tax-paying Americans a vote in Congress.
Sen. Smith has the opportunity to stop this injustice. As an Oregon voter, you are uniquely positioned to lend your voice in support of voting rights for DC residents.
Tell Sen. Smith that you are an Oregon voter who cares about your fellow Americans living in Washington, DC. Tell him to stop his filibuster and support the DC House Voting Rights Act (S. 1257).
There are a number of ways to tell Sen. Smith you want him to support the DC Voting Rights Act:
- Write a letter or send an e-mail to Senator Smith using our online advocacy tool
- Call the Senator's DC office or the Senator's district office nearest to you in Oregon
- Set up a meeting with Senator Smith at his national or in-state offices to personally tell him that you support democracy for Americans living in our nation's capital
