Example Letter-to-the-Editor
DC Voting Rights Supporter Who Lives Outside of the District of Columbia
Dear Editor:
Americans like me living in ****** have a lot in common with Americans living in Washington, DC. We both pay taxes, serve on juries, and defend our country during times of war. This is taxation without representation, and it's wrong.
After more than 200 years of DC's injustice, Congress is on the verge of solving this problem. In April, the House of Representatives passed the DC House Voting Rights Act, a bill that would give DC citizens our first-ever vote in Congress. The bill also cleared a Senate committee, and the next step is a vote on the Senate floor.
DC citizens need help from people in *****. There are some senators who are considering blocking this bill. Senators have not blocked a piece of civil rights legislation since the days of segregation. Let's not repeat one of the darkest times in American history.
Washingtonians need the editorial voices of this country to join with the citizens of the nation's capital in the call to end DC's plight. Urge your senators to end taxation without representation in the nation's capital by passing the DC House Voting Rights Act. It will only be with support from the American people that the District of Columbia can finally take its rightful place in our precious democracy.
Sincerely,
Your Name
